                                                                   Define Symbolism:

Symbolism is the practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character. A symbol is an object, action, or idea that represents something other than itself, often of a more abstract nature.

Define Imagery:
Imagery is in a literary text, occurs when an author uses an object that is not really there, in order to create a comparison between one that is, usually evoking a more meaningful visual experience for the reader. It is useful as it allows an author to add depth and understanding to his work, like a sculptor adding layer and layer to his statue, building it up into a beautiful work of art.

Discuss three different uses of symbolism and imagery in the book, "Fahrenheit 451." Post a picture of this image with each description.

Blood - Blood symbolizes life or the lack of life. Montag's revolutionary thoughts are most often accompanied by the increased flow of blood. Mildred's poisoned blood is replaced by new blood after she attempts suicide; it, however, does not revive her soul and she remains dead inside.

Fahrenheit 451 - The temperature at which books burn symbolizes the disintegration of Montag's
society. In essence, it's the temperature at which society burns.

Fire - Fire represents destruction, of books, of people, of society

3. Define civil liberties.
rights or freedoms given to the people by the First Amendment to the Constitution, by common law, or legislation, allowing the individual to be free to speak, think, assemble, organize, worship, or petition without government (or even private) interference or restraints. These liberties are protective in nature, while civil rights form a broader concept and include positive elements such as the right to use facilities, the right to an equal education, or the right to participate in government.

Define Civil Liberties

5. When do you feel civil liberties are infringed upon? Can you give another example of "fringing" on your civil liberties?

I feel the civil liberties are infringed upon when people post bad videos and say bad words. Another example of fringing is when you can not check your students personel property.

Blog 5: 9/11 Remembering

When 9/11 happened I was only 1 year old. I learned about this tragic event from my parents and family. When my parents showed me some videos on Youtube of what had happened I was shocked. I was shocked because honestly I never thought people would ever think about trying to take down two tours just to kill innocent people. I was also kind of sad becasuse I didn't think that innocent people deserved to die like that. I wondered to myself why couldn't they of killed someone in prison not some innocent people like those men and women. That is what I think of 9/11.

Civil Liberties vs. Airport Scanners

Prior 9/11:

*Rules not as strict.

*Easy and faster getting in and out of airport.

*Kitchen utensils not a big deal.

*We didn’t have full body scanners.

*Safer to fly.

Post 9/11:

*There’s a list that tells you what you can’t pack.

*It takes forever to get through security.

*Lots of delays because of security.

CENSORSHIP

1.Define Censorship: Censorship is the suppresion of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body. It can be done by governments and private organizations or by individuals who engage in self-censorship. It occurs in a variety of different contexts including speech, books, music, films and other arts, the press, radio, television, and the Internet for a variety of reasons including national security, to control obscenity, child pornography, and hate speech, to protect children, to promote or restrict political or religious views, to prevent slander and libel, and to protect intellectual property. It may or may not be legal. Many countries provide strong protections against censorship by law, but none of these protections are absolute and it is frequently necessary to balance conflicting rights in order to determine what can and cannot be censored.

2.Define Banned Book: Banned books also know as book censorship can be enacted at the national or subnational level, and can carry legal penalties for their infraction. Books may also be challenged at a local, community level. As a result, books can be removed from schools or libraries, although these bans do not extend outside of that area. Similarly, religions may issue lists of banned books – a historical example being the Roman Catholic Church's Index Librorum Prohibitorum – which do not always carry legal force.

Blog 3: Rob Legato/Awe

Today in class we watched a video on Rob Legato a special effects camera guy. He has helped in movies such as Apollo 13, Titanic, Avatar, Hugo, Shutter Island and many many more. The video told us about the camera effects and the camera angles. He also told us on how he helped make the Titanic, Apollo 13 and Hugo. In Apollo 13 he used fire igstuishers to make it look like smoke. That is what we learned in computer class.
